Every three years, the PSAC holds its Triennial National Convention, where delegates from across the union come together, debate issues and set direction for the Union for the next three years.We will be doing something new at the PSAC 2012 Convention: for the first time, delegates will have the opportunity to debate and adopt a “Members’ Plan”.The plan is designed to set the direction for the Union for the next three years.

The Canadian Human Rights Act recognizes environmental sensitivities as a disability, therefore, they must be considered as any other medical condition. More and more employees report having adverse reactions to substances commonly found in the workplace environment.  Products such as perfumes, certain foods, certain cleaning or latex products, can trigger reactions in some people from mild to serious.

The 2012 BC Regional Health & Safety Conference has been tentatively scheduled for February 24-26, 2012 in Vancouver. We are currently seeking members who are willing to play a leading role in the organization of the 2012 H&S Conference.  The organizing team will work closely with James Little and myself and will be expected to provide their services up to and during the conference. If you wish to join us on the organizing committee please review the following for instructions on our criteria and application process.

Did you know that your perfume may be making some people sick? There is a dramatic increase in people who are made sick by fragrances because so many products are now scented. Chemical fragrances are present in most soaps, shampoos and other hair products, cosmetics, deodorants, suntan lotion, aftershaves, colognes and lip balms to name a few. Sometimes even products marked as “unscented” are falsely labeled and actually contain toxic fragrances.

Here’s an interesting article relating to workplace bullying which was posted in the Toronto Star last November. The reporter is Janis Foord Kirk.Getting stepped on at work“She loved the work at first, ” a worried husband confides. “But now she drags herself in every day. A couple of people who’ve worked there for years seem to have it in for her. I can’t believe some of their antics. “Is this workplace bullying?” he asks. “And if it is, what can she do about it?”
