The PSAC BC Region has three Human Rights Committees who meet regularly to in person and via conference call to discuss issues and plan events relating to PSAC's Aboriginal, PWD, GLBT, and Racially Visible caucus members.

The BC Region also has four Regional Council members who represent equity-seeking groups. They are responsible for PSAC members within their constituencies and speak for them at the Council, they seek to promote the activism of PSAC members within these constituencies, and they ensure and promote representation for their constituencies throughout our Union.

Members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada’s Victoria Regional Womens’ Committee have been working on a plan to erect a memorial to the victims of the École Polytechnique Massacre.The Montreal Massacre, as it is also known, resulted in the deaths of 14 women on Dec. 6,1989. The anniversary of this tragic event is commemorated every year in Canada as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.

Over the next few months, members and allies of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community will celebrate their identities and the great victories of the last 20 years.The PSAC is proud of the victories that we have won through collective bargaining, litigation and mobilization for GLBT members. Ottawa – The Public Service Alliance of Canada and Canada Post have signed a memorandum of agreement that will see long-awaited pay equity cheques begin to be issued in August.“PSAC started this process in 1983 with a complaint to the Canadian Human Rights Commission and has stuck with it through literally hundreds of days of Tribunal hearings and numerous court battles,” says PSAC national president Robyn Benson.  “Now the members are finally going to get what they have deserved for so long.”

Let's make 2013 Victoria Pride Parade the biggest PSAC participation that the island has ever seen!The Vancouver Island Human Rights Committee would like to invite all Locals and PSAC members on Vancouver Island to march together as a PSAC convoy in the upcoming Victoria Pride Parade July 7, 2013. In the past years, we have marched behind multi-union convoys but we would like to encourage more PSAC locals and committees to come out, show support and march together.

PSAC's Human Rights/Programs Section is gathering data and stories about how federal government cuts and Work Force Adjustment has impacted workers with disabilities. Impacts could include the loss of, or changes to, an existing accommodation, being declared surplus, or not being given a reasonable guaranteed job offer.We are asking PSAC members with any knowledge - personal or otherwise - regarding workers with disabilities being affected by the cut backs and WFA notices to let us know.

We chose an aboriginal theme so as to address two resolutions passed at the 2012 Triennial Convention.
