Our union, along with concerned Canadians in communities across the country, has been working hard to save public services and protect jobs. We are all affected by cuts to services, and we must all take action to defend the public services PSAC members provide to Canadians.

This section contains news and information about PSAC's political action program in British Columbia. Visit the national website for background and more information on our campaigns.

The new minister of Fisheries and Oceans, Minister Hunter Tootoo, was mandated by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in a letter released Friday to re-open the Kitsilano Coast Guard station and the Maritime Rescue Sub-Centre in St. John’s. “This is a major victory for all who have been campaigning against the closures by the previous Conservative government,” said PSAC National President Robyn Benson. "We are optimistic that Minister Tootoo will act swiftly for the sake of water, harbor and environmental safety.”

PSAC congratulates Scott Brison on his appointment as President of the Treasury Board Secretariat and looks forward to working together to restore public services and improve working conditions for public sector workers. “The integrity of and respect for the public service was a central issue during the election campaign for our members and for Canadians who rely on the vital services our members provide,” said Robyn Benson, National President of PSAC. “We look forward to turning the page and working together to rebuild and restore that trust.”

Now that this epic election campaign is over and we have a new government – and for many of us a new employer, I would like to take a moment to thank PSAC members in BC for your work and support over the past months and look forward to the next few years. I’m confident that all of you voted and for that I say – THANK YOU!

OTTAWA –Canadians rejected the Harper Conservatives and voted for change on October 19 and that is good news for Canada, says the Public Service Alliance of Canada. “The new Liberal government has a strong mandate for change,” said PSAC National President Robyn Benson. “That change needs to include restoring public services and building a positive relationship with the federal public service.  We call on the Liberals to practice a new kind of politics and to work collaboratively with the NDP and other progressives in Parliament to put Canada back together again.”

Ottawa, October 15th, 2015 — A new Ekos poll commissioned by the Public Service Alliance of Canada shows that a large percentage of Canadians are opposed to cuts to public services and believe the cuts will affect the election result on October 19th. The poll was conducted from October 2-11, 2015, and drew on a sample size of 5,064 Canadians of voting age (23, 836 were contacted) with a margin of error of 1.38.
