The PSAC BC Region has three Human Rights Committees who meet regularly to in person and via conference call to discuss issues and plan events relating to PSAC's Aboriginal, PWD, GLBT, and Racially Visible caucus members.

The BC Region also has four Regional Council members who represent equity-seeking groups. They are responsible for PSAC members within their constituencies and speak for them at the Council, they seek to promote the activism of PSAC members within these constituencies, and they ensure and promote representation for their constituencies throughout our Union.

** posted on behalf of Ruby Langan, PSAC BC Regional Council Coordinator for Aboriginal Members ** On September 26, 2007, Manitoba legislature passed a bill establishing a statutory holiday on the third Monday in February as Louis Riel Day. Louis Riel was a leader of the Métis people, an Aboriginal people with their own culture, language and heritage. Their ancestral homeland, is now in the Canadian provinces of Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia and the Northwest Territories and parts of the north-west of the United States.

PSAC-BC is planning on holding a Racially Visible Regional Conference in the Spring of 2016 in Vancouver!    We are currently seeking members who are willing to play an important role in the organizing of this conference by providing input from a regional perspective.  The Organizing Committee will work closely with Jennifer Chieh Ho, PSAC-BC Racially Visible Equity Coordinator, and Monica Urrutia, PSAC Regional Representative, and will be expected to provide their services in the lead up to, during, and after the conference.

November 20 is the Trans Day of Remembrance. On this day, we commemorate the transgender and transsexual people we have lost and honour those who continue to suffer from violence, hatred and discrimination in our communities and in our workplaces. PSAC re-commits to fighting for trans human rights, both at the bargaining table and on the political stage.
