June 21, National Aboriginal Day is once again upon us and with it comes another opportunity for everyone to give thought to the impact Aboriginal Peoples have had on the history of Canada – and also what impact history has had on Aboriginal Peoples. The day was first proclaimed by the Governor General in 1996 as a way to remind Canadians of the contributions and achievements of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples. The solstice day was chosen not only because it is the longest of the year, but also because it is a day that First Peoples have been celebrating for thousands of years.

For most of us, today is Valentines Day.But for Aboriginal children living on reserves, today is an especially important day. The First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada is at the Federal Court today, arguing that Canada is discriminating against Aboriginal children by underfunding child welfare services. PSAC invites you to Have a Heart for First Nations Children.
